Always take Nitrofurantoin drug as per your doctor’s advise. It should be taken with food and the oral suspension can be mixed with water, fruit juice and milk and taken.

While you are on Nitrofurantoin medication, you should have to complete the whole dose. If the drug is stopped in the middle, there is a chance that the infection may relapse. Moreover, the doses should have to be taken at the right time. But in case a dose is missed, you can take it as soon as you remember it. But take care that two doses of Nitrofurantoin drug are not taken at the same time.

Before your doctor advices Nitrofurantoin, it is better to inform him about all your health conditions. Tell him if you have allergies to any particular medicine, food or any substance. Your doctor should have to know if you are diabetic or have any liver or kidney problems, anemia, vitamin B deficiency or electrolyte imbalance.

Nitrofurantoin drug is not prescribed for pregnant women who are in their last two or four weeks of pregnancy. Breast-feeding mothers should also not take nitrofurantoin as the drug is traced in breast milk. Children below 12 years of age are also not given the drug.

While on Nitrofurantoin medication, it is advised to go for regular lab tests and to keep your appointments. Your doctor needs to check your liver and kidney conditions on a regular basis.
