Doxycycline is a drug that is given for people having infections of the bacteria, gonorrhoea, acne, periodontitis and chlamydia. The drug is also used with other medicines for the treatment of infections of amoeba.

Doxycycline works on the body by preventing the growth of bacteria. Doxycycline is the generic name of Doxycycline. The drug is available n brands known as Adoxa, Avidoxy, Monodox, Alodox, Doryx, Oraxyl, Periostat, Oracea, Vibra-Tabs and Vibramycin Calcium.

People using Doxycycline should always take the medication as per the prescription. The drug should never be used with diary products as these products slow down the absorption of the medicine into the body. But there are some brands that could be taken with diary products. When taking the drug, it should not be crushed, chewed or broken as it has to be slowly absorbed into the body. Doxycycline should only be swallowed, which helps in the slow absorption of the medicine.

Doxycycline is not advised if a person is allergic to the contents of the drug or to similar drugs like demeclocycline, minocycline and tetracycline. The drug has to be taken with caution if people having liver and kidney issues are taking it. The doctors may go for special tests to check the heath and also even go for dosage adjustments.

Doxycycline is not given to pregnant women. This is because the drug may cause harmful effects on an unborn babe. Breastfeeding mothers should also not take Doxycycline without seeking a doctor’s advise. This is because the drug could affect the development of bone and tooth in growing children. The medicine is not given to children below the age of eight. The doctors also advise to stop Doxycycline in case a person is undergoing surgery.

A person using Doxycycline may come across diarrhea. This condition should have to be treated only by a doctor and not by any medicine bought from the drugstore. People using Doxycycline should also avoid exposure to Ultra violet rays as the skin can become sensitive. Moreover, a patient should also not use multivitamins, iron or calcium supplements, laxatives and antacids within two hours of taking the drug.

A person taking Doxycycline should also be aware of the various side effects that come with the drug. Swelling (tongue, lips, ace, mouth), hives and breathing problems are some of the allergies that a person can have when using Doxycycline.

The grave side effects include headache, blurred vision, dizziness, body aches, fever, flu, blistering, skin rashes, less urination, pale coloured skin, dark urine, fever, weakness, confusion, stomach pain spreading to the back, vomiting, nausea pounding heart beat, appetite loss and weakness.

Some of the minor effects of Doxycycline include trouble in swallowing, swollen tongue, vomiting, mild nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, white patches in the mouth/lips, vaginal itching, vaginal discharge, swelling or sores in rectal/genital area. People using Doxycycline should always be in constant touch with the doctor. In case a person using Doxycycline feels any uneasiness, he should have to check with the doctor before it gets complicated.
