Augmentin

Augmentin is an effective penicillin anti biotic prescribed for the treatment of infections of the bacteria.

Augmentin

The drug is only effective against bacteria and does not work against viral infections. Augmentin can be taken in empty stomach as well as with food. If you want good results, the whole course of the medication has to be taken. If the medicine is stopped in the middle after you feel better, there is a chance of the infection to come back.

You should have to tell your doctor all about all your health conditions before he prescribes Augmentin. He can prescribe the right dosage only if he knows all your medical conditions. You have to tell your doctor if you are allergic to certain medicines, food or any other substance.

Tell your doctor if you have a history of hives or hay fever, asthma, dizziness and breathing difficulties. Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or liver problems. Augmentin interacts with certain medicines and so it is better to inform your doctor about all the medications that you are taking. The drug should not be taken if you are having infectious mononucleosis; taking tetracycline antibiotic; if you have taken a live oral typhoid vaccine.

It has been seen that long term use of the drug may lead to a second infection. Be careful for any signs of a second attack and if you come across such signs intimate your doctor immediately. Augmentin should only be used with caution in elderly people and children below 10 years of age.
